Henry Ian Cusick Chávez took birth in Trujillo, Peru. His mother is of Peruvian descent and his father has Scottish ancestry. After his birth, his family lived in Trujillo for two years. Then they moved to Spain, and then to Scotland. They next lived in Trinidad and Tobago for ten years. He then attended Presentation College. At 15, Henry Ian Cusick Chávez moved back to Scotland. Cusick joined ‘Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama’ and stayed there for six months. He then attended the Citizens’ Theatre. While in Glasgow, he made appearances in various productions for the Strathclyde Theatre Group. He speaks very good English and Spanish. During his childhood, he was raised like a Roman Catholic.
Henry Ian Cusick Chávez made his acting debut as a classical theatre actor. His first leading roles were on: ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray’ as Dorian Gray, on ‘The Marovitz Hamlet’, Cusick appeared as Hamlet. On ‘The Country Wife’, Henry Ian Cusick Chávez portrayed the character of Horner. Henry’s breakthrough performance in Edinburgh International Festival production of Torquato Tasso, and Creon in the Citizens’ Theatre production of Oedipus helped him to receive a special commendation for Ian Charleson Award in 1995 in the category of outstanding performance by a young actor in a classical theatre role.
He next started landing roles on television shows and movies etc. Soon, he was seen portraying recurring characters on Casualty and The Book Group. In 2003, he made an appearance on movie ‘The Visual Bible: The Gospel of John’ portraying the character of Jesus Christ. In 2005, Henry Ian Cusick Chávez secured the role as Desmond Hume in the ABC series ‘Lost’. At first, he appeared as a recurring character but the response and appreciation he received from viewers helped him to secure a place among the main cast of series. He became a member of main cast from season three onwards. In the fifth season of ‘24′, Henry Ian Cusick portrayed the character of Theo Stoller. In future, he is to appear in direct-to-DVD movie ‘Dead Like Me’.
Cusick is married to Annie and the couple has three sons, namely Elias, Lucas and Esau. As of now, they’re living in Oahu, Hawaii together.
