Ian Somerhalder took birth in Covington, Louisiana. He has two siblings, Bob, the brother, a former professional cyclist, and a sister, Robin, a broadcast journalist. His father, Robert Somerhalder served as a building contractor. His father is of French and English ancestry and his mother Edna is of Irish and Choctaw descent.
When Somerhalder was thirteen, his parents got divorced. He went along with his mother and grew up living with her. Ian joined a Catholic School. His family was severely affected by Hurricane Katrina.
His mother encouraged him to begin his career as a fashion model and he started doing so at the age of 10. He next modeled in New York, Paris, Milan, and London for Calvin Klein, American Eagle Outfitters, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Versace, and Guess? etc. He also modeled for DNA Model Management in New York City, and Priscilla’s Model Management in Sydney, Australia.
His first biggest acting role was in ‘The Rules of Attraction’. His next appearances were on ‘Smallville’, ‘CSI: Miami’, ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’, ‘CSI: Crime Scene Investigation’, ‘Now and Again’, and ‘The Big Easy’ etc. He also produced ‘Recess’.
Ian Somerhalder next joined ‘Lost’, an American Television Series and his role as Boone Carlyle can be considered as his biggest role yet. His character was killed off in the first season of the show, but he continued playing Boone Carlyle in flashbacks and dream sequences etc.
