Ken Leung took birth in New York City. He grew up in the Two Bridges section of the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Very soon, his family moved to Midwood, Brooklyn. Ken Leung joined high school in Old Bridge, New Jersey.
Leung later joined New York University (NYU) as a University Scholar. In his junior year, he discovered his interest in acting in his junior year. He also acted in downtown spaces and black boxes etc.
In 1997, Leung made his debut in Brett Ratner’s ‘Rush Hour’. In 1998, In 2000, Ken Leung portrayed the character of James in Terrence McNally’s passion play, ‘Corpus Christi’. Leung also appeared in Keeping the Faith, directorial debut of Edward Norton. Soon after, he started appearing in several independent and television films, most notably four films with Brett Ratner and two projects with Spike Lee. In 2002, Leung made his Broadway debut in the Tony Award-winning musical, ‘Thoroughly Modern Millie’.
In 2007, he made an important appearance in the independent film ‘Shanghai Kiss’. He also earned a Special Mention at the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival for his breakthrough performance. In the same year, he landed a guest-role in an episode of the final season of ‘The Sopranos’, the HBO drama series. This was the role which encouraged the producers of the ABC drama ‘Lost’ to cast him in a regular role. He appeared in the fourth season as Miles Straume.
