Matthew Fox, an American model and actor is also known as Matthew Chandler Fox. He was born to Lory on July 14, 1966. His father is named Francis G. Fox and he has two siblings. Both are brothers, namely Francis Jr., and Bayard. His mother is of Italian descent and his father has Union General George Meade ancestry. Soon, they moved to Wyoming and started living as the caretakers of the remote “Bitterroot Ranch” outside Dubois for Bayard Fox and Louise “Wendy” Fox. Several harsh winters passed by and came the time when Matthew’s family purchased the ranch in Crowheart, WY.   His mother started serving as a teacher and his father raised longhorn cattle and horses and grew barley for Coors beer.   Matthew Fox graduated from Wind River High School and next joined prestigious Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts. He next joined Columbia University. He has been a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. Matthew Fox received a degree in Economics in 1988. He next joined School for Film and Television in New York. Fox soon started acting with Atlantic Theatre Company.

After receiving graduation from Columbia University, Fox applied for a job at Prudential Bache. Matthew FOX first appeared on an episode of ‘Wings’. In the very same year, he starred on a short lived dramatic series ‘Freshman Dorm’. Initially, his was not a very popular actor and got only supporting roles on TV shows and movies etc. He soon got a supporting role on CBS series ‘If I Die Before I Wake’. Fox made his screen debut on  ‘My Friend’s Back’ in 1993.   In 1994, Matthew Fox joined the cast of ‘Party of Five’ portraying the character of Charlie Salinger. In 1996, People magazine named him as one of the ‘50 Most Beautiful People in the World’. After ‘Party of Five’ got cancelled, Matthew became a part of ‘Haunted’. On the very popular drama ‘Lost’, Matthew Fox appeared as the troubled and dedicated doctor Dr. Jack Shephard. He auditioned for the role of James Sawyer Ford but JJ Abrams, the show creator, asked him to portray the role of Jack instead.

His excellent acting skills and performance on ‘Lost’ helped him to receive nomination for a Golden Globe Award. Fox won the 2005 Satellite Award and also got the 2006 Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.

During 2006, Fox appeared as a host on ‘Saturday Night Live’ with musical guests Tenacious D. In the same year, he co-starred in ‘We Are Marshall’, a sports drama along with Matthew McConaughey. He also landed a small role on the action movie ‘Smokin’ Aces’ and is also a part of the 2008 thriller ‘Vantage Point’.  In May 2008, Fox appeared as Racer X in the movie entitled ‘Speed Racer’.

Matthew Fox has described his father, Francis as a very tough man who brought up his all children with a firm and distinctive sense of discipline and order. They didn’t have TV at their home, until Fox was 15. He had stricken with Aquaphobia. He himself has described that he consumed his first alcoholic beverage at 12. He also played varsity basketball. He met his wife Margherita Ronchi, a former Italian runway model, at Columbia University. He married Margherita Ronchi in 1991 and has two children with her. Kyle Allison was born in 1998 and Byron took birth in 2001.

He’s a football lover and likes Philadelphia Eagles NFL team.

His acting skills helped him to receive nominations and won several awards.  In 2005, Matthew Fox won Satellite Award for Best Actor in a Television Drama Series for his performance on ‘Lost’. In the same year, he was nominated for Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films Awards as the Best Actor on Television. He received nomination for Peoples Choice Awards as Favorite Male Television Star. He next was nominated for Television Critics Association Awards in the category of Individual Achievement in Drama. In the following year, Matthew Fox won Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films award as Best Actor on Television. He also was nominated for National Television Awards as Most Popular Actor. In 2007, he got Saturn Awards nomination for the Best Lead Actor in a Television Series. In 2008, Fox won Saturn Award for Best Actor on Television. In same year, he Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films Award as the Best Actor on Television. More recently, he has got a nomination for Prism Award in the category of Performance in a Drama Series Episode.

Role on ‘Lost’

Matthew Fox portrayed Dr. Jack Shephard on ‘Lost’. He is among the major characters of the show and was the leader of the crash survivors. He hails from Los Angeles, California, USA and is a neurosurgeon. After the plane crashed on the Island, Jack played an important role in the survival of his fellow buddies.
